Songs for the Summer with Penistone Ladies
A huge thank you to everyone who made our evening such a success – both choirs performed fabulous sets! The choir and audience sang two local folk songs together – 6 Jolly Miners (led by Duncan & arr. by Joe Shaw) & The Grand Pubs of Yorkshire (led by Michael B). Our 2 joint numbers were The Circle of Life from the Lion King, and The Lord’s Prayer by Albert Hay Malotte. What a wonderful combined sound!! Thanks to all the tea and coffee helpers, Melvyn for being our ticket officer on the door, and the ladies choir for organising the raffle and programs. Thanks go to both our pianists too, both choirs are blessed with super talented musicians who accompany them each week – Philip Sutcliffe and Yvonne Woffenden.
Joint rehearsal with Penistone Ladies Choir
We had a fabulous evening on Monday (3rd July) with the Penistone Ladies – we’re working on 2 joint items and some Yorkshire folk songs for our concert on July 15th. Led by Joe and Rachel, with fabulous pianists in Yvonne and Phil we worked hard on Malotte’s Lord’s Prayer, and the Lion King’s Circle of Life, complete with flute and djembe.we’re really looking forward to the concert now!! Come along on July 15th to Emmanuel church for a great evening 🎵
David Clover Festival of Singing
We are delighted to sponsor a class and a cup in this fabulous festival. 2 years ago we invited our class winner Madeline Lake to sing with us. And she’s a winner again. A stunning voice, do pop along to the festival showcase concert to hear her and other winners.

Male Choir Conference – Peterborough 2023
A huge thank you to Peterborough Male Voice and their team for hosting over 40 lower voice choirs and their teams for a thought provoking conference. Our MD Rachel, 3 committee members and a top tenor (our youngest member!) spent the day in Peterborough.
Fact: In the past decade, 1 in 3 male singing groups have ceased to exist. And a challenge to the groups there – how are we going to move forward for growth and security? Some very hard hitting talks, and inspirational stories. Lots and lots for our committee to discuss!
Saying Goodbye
A joy and a privilege as well as sad occasions – In the past 4 weeks, the MGMVC have sung at 2 funerals, in Jan at Grenoside crematorium we sang Schubert’s An Die Music, alongside Cym Rhondda (Guide me Oh) to mark the life of Baritone John Briggs.
Today the gents have sung at Thurlstone St Saviour’s as we said goodbye to our treasured bass John Wood.He chose his own music – ‘What Would I Do Without My Music’ and Gwahoddiad. We joined with Graham and the Thurlstone band for Love Divine.
At our concert on April 1st, we are going to start our program with ’He ain’t heavy, he’s my brother’ as a tribute to both these wonderful men. they leave a huge hole in our choir and in our hearts.
Celebrity Concert 1st April
Tickets are now available from the Penistone Paramount website for our concert with the South Yorkshire Police Band.
